Our aim: one place to find fab projects starting with pictures...
Amy (MIT) is giving away Free cameras with wifi enabled memory cards to individual Fab labs.
These cameras allow you to take pics and upload them automatically to the web or pc or both!
All we ask is they...
You have a operating lab
You have a solid wifi internet connection.
You have to secure the camera to one place in the lab (one of your first picture should be its locking device!!)
You ensure that regular pictures are taken with the camera
You upload the to Fabfotos picasa site (this set up is described below...)
After that you can add the fotos to your own folders websites or other websites like flicker, facebook
Materials
You will need:
- Eye Fi Explore x2 or Geo x2 SD memory card and WIFI adapter (http://www.eye.fi/ in top right corner you can choose a country local to you and see if they will ship to you)
- You need a windows or mac pc to first configure the card on to your WIFI network
- Digital camera that accepts an SD card
- Good internet connection with WIFI network
- Working Fab Lab where things are being made
Method
Plug in Eye Fi USB into a computer with internet access
Install Eye Fi software and updates (pre loaded on USB, only need once to configure once to set up card)
Add to existing eye fi account
- email address - fabfotos@fabfolk.com
- password - you will need password so email me at info@fablabmanchester.org

Add network and configure to connect your WIFI you can add upto 32 networks
Add your password and save
Photos

Configure for your own needs
Online
Add new online sharing site - click picasa
Add picasa account FABLABFOTOS you will need password so email me please info@fablabmanchester.org

Privacy - select public
tick upload both photos and video
show advanced options
- Account title - it doesn't matter you can choose
- Album name - select custom, then add World Fab Lab Projects
- Add tags - tick and add fab lab fablab [your lab name] (other relevant info needs to be added by picture)
- Add by eye fi - UNTICK
- Add geographical location to tags - tick
- Add description - your website address or your contact details (so people can ask you about projects or find more documentation)
- Photo size - 640px and SAVE

Geotagging - enable
Transfer mode
Selective transfer - AUTOMATIC
Relayed transfer - enabled
Enable endless memory - tick and move bar to 80%
Save all settings
Then you will be asked to test the card. Fingers crossed it should work!!
Troubleshooting
You made need to stop the card on the start menu before removing it.
If card is not recognised in software on pc reboot the pc
Put card into a different card reader. The software is pre installed on the card.

Next steps would be to share pictures f different photobooths or methods to make pictures look better.
