Milliken goes Fab-Lab-ulous at Clerkenwell Design Week
1 May 2013
Tap into the Milliken zeitgeist at this year’s Clerkenwell Design Week (21 – 23 May 2013). Extending its approach to purposeful play, leading floor coverings supplier Milliken invites visitors to unleash their inner inventor, as the company sets up its own pop-up ‘Fab Lab’ on Berry Street in the heart of Clerkenwell.
Using digital manufacturing technology, the Milliken Fab Lab is based on the concept of a creative manufacturing workshop, to bring the skills and methodology to a wide audience. Featuring a range of interactive technology, the Milliken Fab Lab offers visitors the opportunity to turn their ideas into reality in afternoon workshops and create original prototypes to take home. Evening and lunchtime sessions will feature names from the worlds of TV, design and 3D printing to inspire visitors to push the boundaries of their vision.
Fab Lab Manchester Manager, Haydn Insley, who will be helping to run the Milliken Fab Lab, comments: “Fab Labs aim to provide the tools and support for aspiring inventors and designers to accomplish their own projects, and the Milliken pop-up is a great opportunity to inspire a new audience. Both Fab Lab Manchester and Milliken are advocates of British design and manufacturing and we hope that our pop-up can help reignite the design world’s passion in invention and innovation.”
Alison Kitchingman, director of marketing and design at Milliken comments: “We’re excited to be partnering with Fab Lab as it mirrors Milliken’s mindset for bringing ideas to life. The themes of invention and innovation are central to our core values and we’re hoping that the Fab Lab and inspirational speakers will bring fun, interactivity and inspiration to Clerkenwell.”
