What's in the Fab Lab?
Fab Lab Manchester contains various pieces of computer controlled fabrication equipment ranging from 3D printers, laser cutters and milling machines to sewing and embroidery machines, not to mention a variety of electronic components and materials. Fab Lab also provides access to computers and easy-to-use design and manufacture software, capturing your ideas and turning them into reality at the press of a button.
The Fab Lab is staffed by highly-skilled technicians who can offer support and training in the use of the equipment. All we ask is that users share their ideas and knowledge and help fellow users to get the most out of the equipment and resources.
What can I make?
Fab Lab Manchester is a place where you can make almost anything - you are only limited by your imagination. You might want to design and make something to wear, to display a favourite picture in or something that saves energy. Or it could be something that helps you communicate, get around more easily or simply something that is great to look at. Whatever you would like to make, the Fab Lab team will try to help you bring your idea to reality.
How do I get started?
Fab Lab Manchester is available to use by both businesses and individuals. On Fridays and Saturdays, it is free to use for individuals. All we ask is that you document, and share, your work for others to learn from. You can do this by uploading your project to our Project forum.
When you visit Fab Lab, you will be given a brief induction to show you the equipment, materials and how everything works, along with health and safety considerations. Then you are free to work away.
If you are a commercial business we provide reasonable rates to use Fab Lab and its equipment, giving you the right to fully protect your intellectual property. Please see our business pages for more information.
