Digital manufacturing technology
At the heart of Fab Lab is digital manufacturing technology, combining 2D and 3D design with the latest fabrication technology. Embracing a broad spectrum of methods ranging from CNC machining to 3D printing, it can produce a single unique product from a digital design in a matter of minutes - and at a very low cost in comparison to traditional tooling methods.
Fab Lab Manchester also hosts a number of other technologies and equipment which provide broad manufacturing capability, including precision laser cutters and moulding and milling equipment through to electronic components and circuit boards. Our equipment is available for individual and commercial use and includes:
- Dimension 1200es Series 3D printer
- Epilog Mini 24 laser cutter
- Roland Modela MDX-20 desktop miller
- Roland vinyl cutter
- Shopbot CNC router
- Janome Memory Craft 200e embroidery machine
Commercial users can book Fab Lab equipment Tuesday - Thursday. Different groups can use the facilities at the same time or the Lab can be booked exclusively, depending on your requirements. See our business pages for more information and booking rates.
On Fridays and Saturdays, Fab Lab provides free open access for all. The Lab can get busy on these days so certain equipment needs to be booked in advance using our booking system. Equipment can be booked between 10am - 2pm (after that time it's on a first come first served basis).
In return for using our equipment for free, we ask users to write up their work using our Project pages to share their learning.
IMPORTANT - Health and safety
Before using our equipment you will need to complete a health and safety induction, which take place at 10.30am and 12.30pm every Friday and Saturday. Contact us to arrange your induction.
