Volunteering

Would you like to volunteer at Fab Lab?

We are always looking for committed volunteers at Fab Lab Manchester. Volunteering at Fab Lab provides a unique opportunity to help others whilst learning an array of digital design and fabrication techniques.

Volunteering should be mutually beneficial and we would like to help you learn, develop skills and, importantly, enjoy yourself.

What does volunteering at Fab Lab involve?

Your commitment:

We ask you to commit to volunteering at the Fab Lab at least one day per week – a Friday or a Saturday where the Lab is open for free access. This would involve helping members of the public with the various machines, processes and techniques the Lab offers.

Events:

You could also help out with some of the workshops or events we host during the year. These range from corporate team building to working with young people on our Young Fab Academy. We need volunteers to help run these events during the week.

Community projects:

Fab Lab Manchester works with several charities and community groups. We often need help to build projects for these groups or to work on their events.

Our commitment:

In addition to providing a fun and rewarding place to volunteer we will also provide:

  • Free training on the machines and processes used at Fab Lab Manchester.
  • Free entry to our Peoples' Fab Academy, a nine session course lasting 9 months, usually delivered on the last Friday of each month. It is delivered by the staff at Fab Lab Manchester and teaches how to use a variety of machines, processes and techniques.
  • Access to Fab Lab equipment during the week to make projects (subject to Fab Lab commercial bookings)
